The Huffington Post: Arianna Huffington (Co-Founder)
After gaining momentum in the media for her lively publications and outspoken political views, Arianna Huffington founded the Huffington Post in 2005. The Huffington Post quickly became one of the most popular liberal leaning online news sources in the United States. In 2011, AOL purchased the Huffington Post for $315 million dollars and made Arianna Huffington Editor-in-Chief. Forbes recognizes Arianna Huffington as the 12th Most Influential Woman in the Media and the 52nd Most Powerful Woman in the World. On August 11th, 2016, Arianna tweeted that she would step down as HuffPost’s Editor-in-Chief to run her new sleep and wellness media company, Thrive Global. When she first started Thrive Global, she thought that her current position at Huffington Post would give her the necessary flexibility to take on both projects. However, it soon became evident that she would not be able to do both companies justice and get a healthy amount of sleep simultaneously. HuffPost will inevitably continue to inspire the masses but there is no doubt that they have lost their most empowering voice.
