Sony Pictures Entertainment: Jeff Blake (Vice Chairman)
Why this was a big quit:
During his time with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the studio set many industry and companywide records. Blake was responsible for the marketing of all five of theSpiderman movies, which is their biggest franchise to date with sales of over $4 billion worldwide. In addition, he oversaw the successful James Bond and Men in Black franchises. His departure was also sudden, with minimal succession planning.
Why this is not as big as our Top 10:
You have probably heard a lot about Sony Pictures recently. From email hacks to terrorist threats, Sony has not had a lot of great publicity or as many box office hits in recent years. Ultimately, others were more responsible for the highs and lows than Blake was, so his departure is not as significant. The company is also shifting focus from motion pictures to television production, giving further reason for Blake to pack it up and move out.
